About
Level 7 Consulting Programme (CMI Qualification)
The Level 7 Consulting Programme is a four-day intensive development course designed to build the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours required for effective consultancy practice. Aligned to the CMI qualification, the programme combines theory and practical application through two assessed units: a 4,000-word assignment exploring principles of professional consulting, and a real consultancy project proposal, delivery, and evaluation.
Across the four days, participants explore consultancy from both professional and commercial perspectives. The programme begins by examining the role of the consultant in modern organisations, including stakeholder engagement, ethical practice, and defining consultancy value. It then develops commercial awareness, focusing on client engagement, proposal development, influencing decision-making, tendering, and negotiation.
The third day introduces structured consulting methodologies, evidence-based practice, research and analytical tools, facilitation techniques, and change management considerations. Participants develop practical skills in diagnosing organisational challenges, presenting solutions, and evaluating impact.
On the final day, participants integrate their learning by developing a framework for a real consultancy opportunity. Working collaboratively, they analyse a problem, identify stakeholders, select appropriate methodologies, develop a proposal, and present their approach for peer review and feedback. The programme concludes with personal action planning to support continued professional development and successful completion of the qualification.
The learning outcomes focus on strengthening professional judgement, consultancy frameworks, client relationship management, structured problem-solving, facilitation, and reflective practice.
